This is the construction process of my 3s TBS Caipirinha I am flying since almost one year. I decided to go for the old EPP as it is more robust and the battery slot is not moved forward. I built two Caipis with the new low density EPP and didn’t like it because for me it wasn’t stiff enough and kind of too shaky. Also I wanted to use and fully sink the TBS 4000MAH 3S 20C lipo battery which is not possible with the shaft of the new EPP as the carbon rods are in the way.
Before I glued the wing parts together I was cutting out the battery shaft to fully sink the lipo. Also I thought it would be pretty unique to use a black and a white version of the original EPP.
Here I tested if the lipo is fully in.
Then I glued in the big carbon rods in the middle. For all EPP glueing I am using UHU POR.
After the middle rods I glued the wings together…
… and glued in the smaller carbon rods at the back.
The wooden cam case and motor mount are sprayed in white color and white plasti dip.
Cam case glued in.
Now the motor gets crewed into the motor mount. For extra strong hold I always use UHU screw glue.
Motor screwed in…
… and motor mount glued in.
Time to cut out the part for the GPS…
… and the receiver. All wire shafts have been increased to get all cables in.
The case of the digital sensor is way to big and needs to be removed.
Two screws remove the case…
… and then the XT60’s need to be unsoldered.
Now it fits fine just taking a lil bit space.
The servos and all remaining wires are in and it is time to connect the ESC. I use a 40A as the original TBS ESC 30A has not enough headroom in my eyes.
ESC and digital sensor in position!
The length of the antenna supply cable of the receiver needs to be adjusted…
… to fit perfectly. The yellow cable btw is for RSSI.
Cable shafts are taped…
… and the antenna fixed with hot glue and protected with shucks.
Last update for the core pro.
All taped in respective color!
The rudders are getting taped from above…
… and below.
The bird got it’s rudders and tape even on the bottom 🙂
The rudder horns are glued in with instant glue.
Linkage is not done with the very shitty metal pieces which come with the Caipirinha. Winglets are attached…
… and taped.
And here it is in all it’s beauty ready for maiden flight.
I had a perfect maiden flight finding again the perfect center of gravity (140mm from top of nose). Only the bunny ears (winglets) seemed to be too long for windy flights. I shortened them down half of the length and everything is perfect now! Flight time with mixed speed is 20+ minutes.
This was my last flight with Two-Face in November 2015… just see how great this wing is doin’!
